My broker stopped in my office late yesterday afternoon and asked me to text another agent because he’s had trouble reaching her. On the other hand, through my social media expertise (read text messaging and myspace!) I’ve been able to stay in touch.
The agent hasn’t been here in at least four months. She stopped showing up even when scheduled to cover possible phone calls and walk-in customers. The agent hasn’t attended our sales meetings where we learn about changes in state law, ethics updates, possible scams, mortgage news, callers to be cautious of, and a multitude of other items of interest that affect how we work and our clients.
When a worker in any field is absentee and out-of-the-loop, they are wide open to make huge mistakes. Not only does this open them up to potential liability, but it also leaves the company and the broker vulnerable to lawsuits. My broker is calling the agents who haven’t written contracts this year, along with agents who’ve only only had one or two closings but never come in. He’s asking them to retire or inactivate their licenses and if they aren’t doing that, to move the license to another company. Their ignorance of recent market activity and news can no longer be supported. In this market, we can’t afford for someone to make a huge mistake.
My friend – the other agent – came in today and filled out her paperwork to retire her license. She’s one of four that I’ve heard about this month. I’m sad for them, but relieved for my broker because that risk is now gone.
