I’ve heard it tossed around that a house with a pool is a bad thing. People just do not want to hassle with keeping it clean, dealing with the chlorine and other chemicals, and the ugly spot it’ll leave in the yard once it comes down.
My husband doesn’t want a pool.
After today, I do.
A friend who is out-of-town loaned me her house keys and said, "Help yourself!" Her 4-foot deep really big round pool has been adapted to be of the salt-water variety. It was amazing. When I left, my skin didn’t smell of more than sunscreen (45 spf) and it was actually very soft from the saltwater.
Does a swimming pool add value? My answer, "Only if the buyer wants a pool."
The Fabulous Home Project says no, they do not add value.
Some additions will not only cost you more money, but they can cost you a potential future buyer, as well. An addition that can really detract from the value in many neighborhoods is the swimming pool. You may wonder why anyone would hesitate to buy a home with a swimming pool. But if you have ever owned one, you know that the liability and maintenance involved are more hassle than it’s worth. Only put in a pool if it is something you really will use and you know there is a market for homes with pools in your neighborhood.
Still, I want a swimming pool. A saltwater pool.
