    Realtor Safety

Though I should be wishing all Mom’s, Grandmother’s, Moms-to-be, and Moms-in-your-heart a Happy Mother’s Day, I noticed another blog that caught my attention.

Trish Pachak out of Denver, Colorado wrote about a recent situation she and her assistant found themselves in.  They were in an isolated neighborhood staging a home when a van crept by… several times. Thankfully nothing more serious than being shaken up occurred, but her story reveals how easy it could be to be a victim.

I was once in an open house when two men came in. I found myself in a corner and was fortunate to be able to simply step out of it.  In retrospect, they were harmless, but it sure made me pay more attention to my surroundings.  So if you’re working with an agent, here are some tips to not scare your agent (or your agent is using to keep from being scared).

    1. When your Realtor opens the door for you and invites you in ahead of him/her, accept the invite. We’re told conflicting stories… one is to step in first to protect your clients from being surprised at what lies ahead. Two is to never turn your back on a client.
    2. We will have our cell phones with us. Don’t become agitated if we accept a phone call because it could be our safety net checking on us to be sure we’re okay.
    3. Do not become agitated if we don’t come to show a house alone. We may not yet know that you’re okay and would feel safer with a friend along.
    4. Do not ask us to go upstairs with you in an empty house. You can see the upstairs yourself.
    5. Do not get between your agent and a door. If the agent looks like he/she keeps shifting position, they probably are because you are blocking their escape route.
    6. Do not make a quick move toward your agent (unless they’re falling and you’re trying to help) or you can expect to get pepper spray in the eye.
    7. You may think you’re funny, but if you say something creepy your home tour may well be over. Keep it clean, keep it serious.  Don’t joke about stuff… you know what I mean.

Though not a blog, here’s a quiz for agents about what we pay attention to.

This is really good information. I had no idea of what realtors actually go through but I can only imagine.

I got 7 of 8- wow I thought they were trick questions and I'd miss half of them… interesting test.
